Twitter Explodes After Trump Fires Rex Tillerson In A Tweet

After several public disputes between President Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Trump has made the decision to cut ties. Usually when a boss lets someone go, they schedule a formal meeting and present the notice to the individual, but that’s just not how Donald Trump rolls.

On Tuesday morning, Rex Tillerson woke up to find out he was fired and that Mike Pompeo would be replacing him. This wasn’t done via video chat or phone call, not even an email sent directly to him. Nope. Poor guy found out from a tweet…

Trump wrote:

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!”

Trump has nominated CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Tillerson, and Deputy CIA Director Gina Haspel to take over the spy agency. Haspel will be the first woman to take that position.

State Department spokesman Steve Goldstein said that before today, Tillerson was not planning on leaving, so this news was quite the shock. He “did not speak to the president this morning and is unaware of the reason” for why he was fired.

After Trump’s original tweet, he commented on the matter, saying that he disagreed with Tillerson on a few issues and he feels he “will be much happier now.”

Twitter chimed in immediately:

What do you think?
