A letter containing a suspicious substance addressed to Donald Trump Jr. was opened by his wife, Vanessa Trump, in her Manhattan apartment—and resulted in her hospitalization on Monday.
JUST IN: Letter sent to Donald Trump Jr.'s apartment containing unidentified white powder, NYPD says, and opened by his wife; she and two others were decontaminated by firefighters at the scene. Police and Secret Service are investigating.

Vanessa Trump was “exposed to a powdery white substance” when she opened the letter around 10 a.m. at her mother’s East 54th Street apartment. She, her mother, and one other whose identity has not been disclosed, were taken to the New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, where the three were hospitalized.
In addition to the powdery substance, the envelope contained a threatening letter describing Trump Jr. as a terrible person, according to the New York Post.
There was no indication in the hours following the incident that they suffered any injuries. The NYPD says the powder was nothing but harmless corn starch.
The Trump family immediately took to Twitter:
Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning. Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.

Thinking of @MrsVanessaTrump & wishing I was by her side today. No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse.

President Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, said,
How disturbed must a person be to do what they did to a mother of five young children? This dangerous and reckless act goes beyond political differences.
In fact, no one did this to “a mother of five young children.” The letter containing corn starch was addressed to Don Jr., not his wife.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at her press briefing,
I know the president spoke with [Vanessa]. Beyond that at this point, it’s an ongoing and active investigation so I can’t comment any further.
Twitter had a few thoughts on the “attack”:
How do you know this was political? Maybe they just don't like you at all.

Agree it is wrong.
There is no excuse for it.
And maybe you should reflect on the tone and tenor of your texts and public statements so as to not encourage those crazy people.
You can make valid points without being a complete and total D-ick.

Where's your proof that it was the opposition? Think before you act Donnie.

You’re so right. Some send letters with corn starch in them. Others choose to ask Russia for help in sending out false information in order to steal an election to put money in their own pockets. It’s almost the same. #DonnyJrIsGoingToJail

Maybe Eric was sending you flours for Valentine’s Day.

So your wife opens her own mail? And the Secret Service wasn't around? Your kids opened the mail? Your story is missing a lot of details, and it sounds exactly like the story Eric told last year. Was it the "Deep State?" "Secret Society?" Who are you blaming now?

Why are you assuming that whoever did this has "opposing views"? And does your wife always react that violently to cornstarch?

If she were anyone else no hospital would have admitted her. There are actual sick people who cannot get actually needed medical treatment.
